MICK and ELISE Corcoran of Mick Corcoran Building are justifiably proud of a home at Sapphire Beach which took out the ‘Home of the Year’ at the recent HIA Regional NSW Housing Awards.
The locally based builders were responsible for the stunning home in Sapphire Cres which won three other awards too, ‘Custom Built Home of the Year’, ‘Custom Built Home under $2 Million’ and ‘Outdoor Project of the Year.’
“This residence is a great example of what can be achieved when there is good communi- cation with all parties involved,” Mick said.
“Our client was based in Sydney, so throughout the construction phase, most corres- pondence was made via emails, with regular site meetings carried out with the owner, builder and architect.”
Mick said the house was built to withstand the harshest of environments, as it stands on the headland and is exposed to all the elements the Pacific can throw at it.
The quality of the materials and finishing of the home is apparent immediately. German engineered zinc panelling, a combination of anodised aluminium and timber doors and windows, and rendered block and brick are just some of the products used. Another feature is the automatic external blinds and screens.
Sandstone pavers and a feature wall draw the eye to the front door. Inside, the quality finishes are apparent, with timber niches and joinery elements suspended off the floor. A double sided gas fireplace takes pride of place, and select Blackbutt flooring flows seamlessly to the four large sets of screened timber bi-fold doors which lead outside onto the terrace.
The kitchen is fitted with white Corian bench tops to match the two-pack cabinets, Aus- tralian made range hoods, cook tops and a double oven.
The master bedroom ensuite features a pressed steel bathtub with uninterrupted ocean views and privacy is assured with a remote control blind.
The main guest bedroom is separate from the other three and features its own terrace and a separate self-contained studio with kitchen and ensuite.
All bathrooms are tiled from floor to ceiling and share the same high quality finishes.
